COURSE DESCRIPTION
A three day portrait painting Masterclass where we will work on one portrait from start to finish through a highly structured approach. Starting with drawing the portrait with paint, the focus will be on how to achieve likeness through finding the big shapes and then moving to the details, careful observation of the flow of light and how it reveals form and essential points of likeness. The second stage will cover how to organise the palette, understanding the fundamentals of colour and value and how to attain precision with colour mixing. There will be both demonstrations of both portrait painting and colour mixing.
ABOUT THE TUTOR
Anastasia Pollard is an American born British artist specialising in portrait and figure painting. She trained at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Florence Academy of Art. After completing her studies she moved to London. Her work has been included in numerous exhibitions in both London and the United States. Her portraits have been seen in the Royal Society of Portrait Painters’ Annual Exhibition winning the Ondaatje Prize for Portraiture, 2009. Pollard’s work has been included in the BP Portrait Award Exhibition in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
