Drawing materials
Drawing paper. Strathmore series 400 (or similar) 30 x 35 cm or bigger. (11” x 14”)
Pencils. Graphite pencils are required, a variety like HB, B, and 2B will be enough.
Sandpaper. Kneaded eraser (putty rubber). Kneading needle (for measuring).
Xacto knife.
Transfer materials
Photocopy of the preparatory drawing.
Oil paint – Raw Umber.
Permanent marker (brown would be optimal).
Painting materials
2 small sketches or stretched canvas for value studies and color studies 20 x 25 cm. (Around 8” x 10”).
1 stretched canvas for final painting, some recommended sixes are: 30 x 35 cm, 35 x 40 cm, or bigger. (11” x 14” , 14” x 17”)
walnut oil or linseed oil.
Odorless mineral spirits. NO TURPENTINE PLEASE.
Pigments:
Raw umber
vandyke brown (Gamblin brand), or ivory black
Burnt sienna
Transparent oxide red
Alizarin crimson
Cadmium red
Yellow ochre
Yellow Naples
Viridian
Ultramarine blue
Lead white
Brushes:
Assorted of rounds, filberts and flats
I usually use natural hair brushes such as Kolinsky or red sable, badger hair and bristle hair. Also I recommend having some synthetic brushes at hand.
